Baseball Around The Clock
Baseball/Softball-Same Swing

It is an absolute fact that the baseball and softball swing are exactly the same swing.  Well it is if the hitter isn’t trying to slap the ball while they are running out of the box.  A good softball swing should look no different than a good baseball swing.  The hitter should have a load, a stride, and serious back hip drive that gets the elbow down and in and on the correct path to the ball.

I have a theory that I have not tested one bit but it goes like this.  The reason it is so hard to hit a softball is the ball is on a flat plane and sometimes it is even going up while a hitter is trying to hit it.  Since hitters are or should be swinging on the reverse plane of the ball meaning ball comes down slightly swing goes up slightly, the shear nature of softball makes that impossible to accomplish.

If a pitcher is throwing slow and the ball has a little arc to it then the swing path will match the plane of the ball.

If you try to match the plane of the ball in softball your swing look awful and you may put the ball in play but it will go nowhere because a swing that is level (meaning the barrel is perfectly flat the entire time) is almost impossible and it surely will not have key elements that increase power such as back hip drive, the elbow in the proper slot, and a solid front side.

Take a look at this link as it proves the baseball swing and softball swing are identical, at least if you want to hit the proper way and for power.
