Just like shortstop you will use the flip and the overhand toss from second base as well.
We will use two different flips when performing the 4-6-3 double play. One flip is exactly like the flip from short to second.
Underhand Flip: On a ground ball hit to your right you are going to use the momentum you have due to moving to your right to field the ball and continue it after you field and flip it. Get the ball out of your glove so the shortstop can see it. You are going to use the same underhand flip you use on the 6-4-3. The only difference is on this play you will use even less of an arm action because your body is moving to the base naturally.
Keys to the play:
Clear your glove so the ball is visible to the shortstop.
Continue your momentum while you throw the ball in order to flip the ball correctly.
This flip is going to be very soft due to the fact you are fielding the ball closer to the bag. It is almost just simply letting go of the ball instead of actually flipping it.
